Biology And Its Major Fields Part-1

          Biology deals with the study of living things. The word biology is the combination of two words.

Bio meaning life and logos means study, reasoning or knowledge.

Literally the word biology would mean the study of life. We cannot see life, as it is invisible. However, we certainly know that there is a Creator of this universe who has created all the things present in the universe. Life is something special and unique and it cannot be explained solely in terms of the laws of physics and chemistry. It is invisible and is therefore difficult to define. However there are some characters that manifest life.

          The things which possess these characters are called living things or organisms while those things which lack these characters are called non-living things. Therefore based on characters, thing in the world are classified into two groups.

i.                   Living things

ii.                 Non-living things

We differentiate living things from non-living things by the fact that their bodies are composed of one or more cells. The cells are their basic units of structure that carry on life functions. Living organisms show growth and development, produce new individuals that are usually very like the parent organisms, transmit characters to their offspring, respire, use energy, show responses to stimuli, maintain constant internal environment and interact with one another and also with their non-living physical environment. Multi cellular organisms are highly organized structures showing coordination among deferent parts.

   The question of how this universe originated, where it leads to and how the laws are maintaining its order and balance has always been the topics of interest. Many people have thought over the issue and have developed many hypotheses and theories. One of the most popular theories is the theory of evolution. According to the theory, inorganic molecules formed amino acids by chance, amino acids formed proteins by chance and finally proteins formed living organisms again by chance. Consider for a while that if someone comes to you and tells that raw soil and coal came together to form bricks by chance, which in turn constructed the tower of world trade center by chance, what would you think of the mental state of that poor person? However, the probability of living creature being formed by coincidence is that the probability of the construction of the world trade center tower being formed in the same manner, because even the simplest human cell is more sophisticated than any man made structure in the world.

     How is it possible to think that the balance in the ecosystem and the universe as a whole came about by mere coincidence when the extraordinary harmony of nature is observable even with the naked eye? It is the most unreasonable claim to say that the universe, each point of which suggests the existence of its creator, has come into being on its own.

     Therefore there should be a Creator of the universe and an owner of the balance visibly everywhere from our body to the farthest corners of the vast universe. Who is that Creator? That almighty creator is one. He is Allah. He brought into existence everything and whose existence is without any beginning or end.

     The theory of evolution as proposed by Charles Darwin in the 19^th century, is one of the most unbelievable and irrational claims in history. Despite this over its 150 years history it been accepted by many scientists and researchers without producing any scientific evidence supporting the theory.

     The theory puts forth the irrational claim that all living organisms, plants animals and human beings are the result of blind, unconscious, accidental events. Evolutionists believe that millions of years ago, in the primal soup of the oceans or pools of water, mindless atoms with no knowledge, powers of reason came together in certain proportions and later, by chance, formed the proteins and cell that even today scientist with most advanced laboratory technology have not been able to duplicate. They go so far as to say that these cells, in their turn and again by sheer chance formed starfish, sparrows, hawks, penguins, cats, lambs, lions apples, apricots, pomegranates, figs and even human beings.

     If human efforts cannot produce any living thing by using the whole pool of human knowledge, how can life be brought into being with the aid of unconscious atoms and chance events? Any intelligent human being of conscience can certainly understand that all living things including him cannot be the result of chance event. Every intelligent unprejudiced person with a conscious knows that Allah (God) has created all these living things with His incomparable power.

     The universe with all its creations both living and non-living has a flawless design, unique systems and an ordered balance that provide all the conditions necessary for living things to survive. Scientific discoveries, especially in the 20^th and 21^st centuries have shown that the flawless deign of the universe is clearly the work of supreme intelligence, the Allah (God) with His supreme intelligence limitless knowledge and eternal power, who created the universe.
